Immigration Measures for Palestinians and Israelis
The Government of Canada has announced new immigration measures to help people affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Who Benefits?
Israelis and Palestinians who:
Have family members in Canada who are citizens or permanent residents.
Are currently in Canada as a temporary resident (have some form of valid status in Canada).
Feel unsafe returning to the region at this time.
This includes Israelis and Palestinians who arrived as part of the assisted departures out of Israel or the Palestinian territories.
Citizens and Permanent Residents with family living in Gaza:
Family members in this case include: spouse, common-law, children (regardless of age), grandchildren, siblings, parents, and grandparents of a Canadian anchor (Meaning Citizen of PR).
The Canadian citizen or PR must currently reside in Canada.
What are the measures?
Israelis and Palestinians who are eligible can:
Apply for open work permits or study permits and will not have to pay the processing fee (fee-exempt).
Those who came to Canada following their assisted departure from Gaza may be eligible to apply online for time-limited medical coverage.
What do you require?
Proof of the relationship, for example:
Birth certificate
Baptismal certificate
Any other official document naming the applicant (person outside of Canada) and the relationship with the Canadian anchor, such as their family book or civil registration documents.
The Canadian government will make further details available soon. Those interested should prepare by collecting all necessary documents.
